Fall and Winter GLBT Events in the Aspen Area
The RFGLCF is pleased to announce several upcoming community-oriented events that we'd like for you to mark on your calendars.
(1) HIV Support Group meeting - WED, November 25 - Aspen
We are starting an HIV support group for the Roaring Fork Valley! After years without one, we finally have the support and funding to bring a support group to Aspen. This confidential discussion group will be open to any and all HIV+ persons who wish to participate, as well as any community members who can be of confidential service. Our first meeting will be held in Aspen next WED, November 25, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. At this meeting we will discuss the frequency of future meetings, future locations and set a schedule for the winter season. If you are interested in participating, please contact bryan@rfglcf.com and rest assured that any inquiries will be held in strictest confidence.
(2) Homophobia/Hate Crime film and Q&A - FRI, December 11 - Wheeler Opera House, Aspen
The RFGLCF will present a weekend of homophobia and hate crime awareness to engage the Roaring Fork Valley community in this pervasive issue. The events will start on Friday, December 11 and continue through the weekend to finish on Monday, December 14. The main (and open to the public) event, which is FREE, is a showing of the film "Amancio: Two Faces on A Tombstone" at the Wheeler Opera House on FRI, December 11 at 7:00pm. This is a new documentary film (64 mins) outlining the death of a gay man in the Colorado River Basin and one man's quest to find justice in his death, in the face of apathy from local law enforcement.
After the film we will have nationally-renown moderator De Palazzo from Perspectives Unlimited (
(3) Babes Around Denver women's event to promote Gay Ski Week - FRI, December 4 - Trax Nightclub in Denver
We are in need of some local women to go down to Denver on Friday, December 4th to promote Aspen Gay Ski Week and the RFGLCF to the ladies down on the Front Range. Can you help? Or do you know anyone that might be interested? The event is Babes Around Denver (BAD), which is a women's group that throws a huge party every first Friday of the month at Trax nightclub in Denver
http://www.babesaroundenver.com/. We will have a table with our banner and give-aways and we need a few ladies to help promote us.
www.perspectivesunlimitedinc.com) host a Q&A which will specifically address hate crime and homophobia in our community, as well as provide an opportunity for community members to weigh-in on the subject. The evening will be a fundraising benefit for the local TEACH program – Teachers Empowering Agents of Change.
This is an excellent opportunity to meet more women in our community statewide and encourage more women to come to GSW. And this is a GREAT way to get involved with Gay Ski Week and perhaps knock off some of your volunteer hours for the event. Please let us know if you have anyone that might be interested in helping us out. And pass this email along to any ladies you know.
